Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today maintained that people reject announcements made before the polls on "political considerations", saying the erstwhile Congress government's "Haryana No 1" campaign failed to woo people as reality on ground was something else.
He said the BJP government in Haryana had got a mandate to eliminate corruption and for undertaking inequitable growth in the state, where "regional disparities" were glaring.
Replying to the debate on the Governor's address during the ongoing budget session of Haryana Assembly, Khattar said that before polls announcements are made on "political considerations".
"During your time (referring to previous Congress government in Haryana), we saw big promises were made, but there was no budgetary provisions for the same. In this regard, Haryana No 1 campaign was launched, but the realities on ground were something different," he told the House.
Khattar also candidly admitted that (BJP's) 'Shining India' had also been launched earlier at the time of the (Lok Sabha) polls.
He further said that everyone knows the fate which 'Haryana No 1' and 'Shining India' campaigns met.
Chief Minister at the outset of his speech said that he may be not be a man of many words in the House, but that does not mean he does not understand the people's pulse or their feelings.
He said that it has been said, "if you cannot understand my silence, you cannot understand my words".
Khattar said the opposition parties tend to compare the four months of his government with 40 years of rule by other parties, which is not a fair comparison.
He, however, said that his government was committed to weed out corruption, undertake equitable development, uplift the poor and the Dalits, work for betterment of farmers, ensure women's security and education to the girls, saying "there will be no difference in our words and our deeds".
Meanwhile, Khattar said that the Land Acquisition Bill of Central government is pro-farmers and will bring prosperity in their lives.
Besides ensuring the progress of the country, it would also take care of the well being of the farmers. It was inappropriate to spread false propaganda in this regard, he told the House.
He said the previous UPA government had brought the new Land Acquisition Act 2013 which was implemented from January 1, 2014. The then Central government published the draft rules on January 1, 2013 and invited objections from public on it.
Questioning the former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Khattar asked him that is it not a fact that he had written letters to the Central government seeking amendments in these rules, had he not sent the teams of officers, had he not demanded to give relaxation to infrastructural projects from these rules and Act.
Hooda was well aware of the fact that after the implementation of this Act on January 1, 2014, they would not be able to acquire even a single inch of land, he said.
