PGIMER incident: SAD MP demands strict action

An Akali member in Rajya Sabha today demanded a case be registered against those involved in the incident during which some Sikh students were asked to remove their articles of faith during a paramedical test at PGIMER in Chandigarh
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Sushdev Singh Dhindsa (SAD) said the issue is of importance to the Sikh religion and stern action should be taken against the guilty. He also demanded the holding of the exam again.
"PGI is a premier institution, where some students were asked to remove their "kadas" and "kirpans", which are their religious symbols, during a test for paramedics. Their turbans were also tinkered with," he said narrating the incident.

Demanding reholding of the test, Dhindsa said, "The children protested there and some of them even walked out in protest."
Informing that even though a DDR has been registered in Chandigarh, the SAD member said, "I demand that a case be registered against the doctor and an inquiry be also initiated against him. The test should also be held again."
Associating with the issue, Najma Heltullah (BJP) said this cannot be accepted as "kada" is a religious symbol and action should be initiated in the matter.
