Police have opposed in the Madras High Court Bench here the anticipatory bail application of Pandi, alias 'Attack' Pandi, declared a proclaimed offender in the case related to the murder of a close associate of former union minister M K Alagiri.
In their counter, police submitted that Pandi had played a vital role in the murder of Suresh, alias Suresh Babu, on January 31, 2013, and eye witness statements confirmed his role in the murder conspiracy.
The petitioner had been declared a proclaimed offender in the murder case. The District Magistrate had issued proceedings attaching his movable and immovable properties.
Besides, he had been refused anticipatory bail thrice by the high court bench itself in the murder case, the counter filed by Inspector K.Kottaichami said.
It also said Pandi had not obeyed the bail orders of the court in some other cases in 2012 and all the bail orders had become infructuous and he was an absconder till date.
Pandi, in his bail plea, has submitted that he had been implicated in the case on the basis of 'confessional' statement of the co-accused. But he was innocent.
The prosecution projected as if there was a political motive between the petitioner and the deceased and he had a main role in the murder. There was no prima facie material to show that the petitioner was involved in the said occurrence, he claimed.
Justice P.N.Prakash posted the case to February 23 for hearing.
