The BCCI has decided to disburse funds to state associations only through online transactions in the wake of the alleged fraud committed by top officials of the Goa Cricket Association (GCA).
The Goa Police on Wednesday arrested GCA president Chetan Desai and secretary Vinod Phadke for allegedly opening a fake bank account in the name of GCA and encashing a BCCI cheque worth Rs 3.13 crore in 2006-07.
BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke today asserted that all funds to state bodies will be distributed online.
"All transfers will only be electronic. No cheques will be given," Shirke was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
"In future all payments from BCCI to state associations will be made to a designated account. That account will have to be confirmed by the current secretary and treasurer of the association. It would have to be counter verified by the bank where the account has been opened. And the statutory auditor of the state association will have to issue a certificate saying it is the actual operative account of the state association," he said further.
Arrested GCA official Desai happens to be the head of BCCI's marketing committee.
A BCCI decision on Desai and Phadke, as well as on the future of Goan body, is expected soon.
The arrests have come at a time when BCCI is facing the challenge of implementing Lodha panel's sweeping recommendations.
