The 22-year-old prisoner Deepak Gupta sustained injuries on his spine and neck after jumping off from the roof of the jail building allegedly after he failed to get contraband substance to which he was addicted, the Superintendent of Police (SP), City, Harkishore Rai said.
The injured prisoner was taken to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for treatment where the attending doctors recommended him to be taken to the PMCH in the state capital in view of his serious condition, he said.
The injured inmate, however, has told the police that he was forced to take the extreme measure due to harassment by another inmate, a charge which was being verified, Rai added.
