Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi today cited the humble origin of Sant Ravidass to send across the message that the son of a tea vendor, Narendra Modi, "is all set to be become the next Prime Minister".
"Having a humble background, Ravidass was given the honour of sant shiromani by the society due to his noble deeds. Likewise, the people have decided to make Narendra Modi, born in a tea vendor's family, the Prime Minister of the country," Sushil Modi said at a party function.
Addressing a function organised by the SC&ST cell of the state party to observe "Ravidass Jayanti", the former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar alleged that schemes for uplifting of mahadalits, a separate group of poorest among the poor within Dalits, were not running properly after the BJP walked out of the Nitish Kumar government.
"Till the time I was the finance minister, I ensured that funds for welfare of mahadalits never fell short. But, now these programmes are on verge of dying," he said.
"I had alloted a sum of Rs 26.68 crore during 2013-14 for making available three decimal land to mahadalit families. But, by the end of January the scheme did not take off in 22 of the total 38 districts," he alleged.
"Likewise, 21 lakh mahadalit families were to be given radio set but so far only 11 lakh of them have received an inferior quality of radio," he said in support of his charge.
The government had decided to set up special courts for disposal of cases of atrocities against SC & ST in five districts -- Patna, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Gaya and Begusarai. "But, no step has been taken so far in this direction," the BJP leader said.
