Two women professors -- Nandini Sundar from Delhi University and Archana Prasad from JNU-- along with Maoists and others have been booked by police in connection with the murder of a tribal villager in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district.
"While the death of this villager is deeply regretted and deserves to be diligently investigated, the FIR itself indicates that there is absolutely no connection between his murder and these human rights defenders," PUCL said in a statement.
Armed Naxals had allegedly killed tribal Shamnath Baghel with sharp weapons on November 4 at his residence in Nama village under Kumakoleng gram panchayat in Tongpal area, around 450 km from Raipur.
Sundar and Prasad are among 10 people named by police in connection with the murder of Baghel based on the complaint of his wife. Both have rejected the charges against them, claiming they have been framed.
