The next phase of pulse polio programme was launched here today with an aim to immunise 24 lakh children of 0-5 age group in the national capital.
Launching the programme, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today administered polio drops to 50 children at her residence.
She said Delhi is regarded as pioneer in polio eradication programme, as no case has been reported from the national capital during last three years.
"The intensified pulse polio immunisation is being taken up as a precautionary measure keeping in view the migration of polio affected persons from different countries and other states," she said.
The government has set up 8,200 booths in the city, with 9,400 teams of medical and para-medical personnel to administer polio drops to around 24 lakh children of 0-5 age group across Delhi.
The polio drops would also be administered at health centres, hospitals, inter-state bus terminals, airports, public places and even religious places.
Meanwhile, a delegation of clerics met the Chief Minister and thanked her for hiking the monthly emoluments of around 250 imams from April 1.
The delegation of 70 Imams and Nayab Imams was led by Chairman Delhi Wakf Board Mateen Ahmed.
The Imams would now get Rs 10,000 per month instead of Rs 6,000 whereas Nayab Imams would get enhanced salary of Rs 9,000 in place of Rs 5,000.
