Punjab govt extends ban on sale of tobacco products

Punjab government today granted extended the ban on sale, storage, manufacture and distribution of tobacco products like Gutkha and Pan Masala in the state for another year.
A spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had approved the state Health and Family Welfare department proposal for banning Gutkha and Pan Masala for one more year in the larger interest of public health.
Other products containing tobacco or Nicotine as ingredients by whatsoever name available in the market, have also been banned, he said.
The government had issued notification in this regard on September 5, 2012 which was to end on September 9, 2013.
