Indian qualifier Shreyanshi Pardeshi showed impressive form and grit to outclass fifth-seeded Hui Zhen Grace Chua of Singapore to reach the women's singles final of the USD 17,500 Tata Open India International Challenge badminton tournament here today.
Shreyanshi, who came into the tournament after recovering from a bout of fever, used the toss-drop technique to good effect to oust Chua 12-11 11-6 11-7 in just over half an hour in the first semi finals at the CCI's courts to reach her maiden singles final at the seniors level.
The 18-year-old 12th standard commerce student from Indore, who has been based at P Gopichand's Academy in Hyderabad since the age of 13, will meet fourth-seeded Malaysian girl Soniia Cheah in tomorrow's final.
Shreyanshi, who idolises former world no. 1 and 2012 Olympic Games bronze medallist Saina Nehwal, saved a game point in the first game at 10-11 before clinching it by taking the next three points.
The Indian girl, ranked beyond 400 in the world and was a junior national finalist last year in Jaipur, was in no trouble against her taller rival in the second and third games to emerge convincing winner.
"The rally game is my plus point," said the diminutive shuttler who made the pre quarter finals of the last World Juniors in Peru.
"This is my second international tournament at the senior level. I had lost to Reshma Karthik at the Hyderabad International Series (last month) in the pre quarter finals," she said.
There was some more cheer for the home country in the men's and mixed doubles with two pairs sailing into tomorrow's finals.
Vignesh Devlekar and Huhoo Garg ousted the Singapore pair of Bimo Adi Prakoso and Yujia Jin 11-8 11-13 5-11 11-9 11-9 in the mixed doubles semi final.
