However, the committee spared three other students, who were alleged to be involved in the incident last week, for their "lesser" role.
"Out of total five students involved in ragging, we have suspended two of them for one year, as they were found to be actively involved in the incident. Involvement of other three was less thus we have decided to de-grade their marks. We will cut one grade from whatever grade they will get in next exam," SVNIT Director PD Pore said.
The student (18) told the university authorities that he was thrashed and abused by the seniors, students of different streams of the institute, in the hostel.
Following the incident, the college had filed a complaint with Umra police station here.
Police Sub-Inspector R R Rathwa, who is handling the probe, had said an FIR will be filed only after questioning both sides.
