Railways order inquiry into Rae Bareli train accident

Railways today ordered an inquiry into the Rae Bareli train mishap in which 32 passengers have died, and the ministry has sought a report from the Railway Safety Commissioner within a month.
"The incident is tragic and a probe by Railway Safety Commissioner has been ordered. Railways has also announced compensation for the victims," Union Minister of State for Railways Manoj Kumar Sinha said.
Sinha said that the commissioner has been asked to submit his report within a month.
Sinha, alongwith Home Minister Rajnath Singh, was talking to reporters after meeting the injured at the Trauma Centre here.
Around 150 people were also injured in the incident, when the engine and two adjoining coaches of the Dehradun-Varanasi Janta Express derailed near Bachrawan Railway Station in Rae Bareli district.
Singh while condoling the death of those killed in the accident, said, that railway officer and employees had "acted promptly" after the accident.
"The casualty could have increased but the action of the Railways was prompt," he said.
Railways have also ordered a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of those killed in the accident. While Rs 50,000 will be given to those injured seriously, Rs 20,000 will be given to people with minor injuries.
