Congress leader Ram Narayan Meena today criticised his own party for "not choosing devoted and experienced" leaders as observers to review the defeat of the party in the state in the recent elections.
"Congress Committee should have appointed experienced and devoted state leaders of the party as observers to review its defeat in the state in the recent elections," Meena said.
"Neglecting the experienced and devoted party leaders had led to the stunning defeat of the party. Devoted and accepted leaders with strong public image should be encouraged to re-strengthen Congress," he claimed.
The Assembly speaker in the previous Ashok Gehlot-led government said it was unfortunate and discouraging that the party had sent those leaders as observers who had non-Congress background and had moreover, failed win the seats they were representing in the state assembly and general elections.
He further said that Congress cannot "solely depend" on party president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi for positive results.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed 15 observers for the seven divisions of the state to review party's debacle in the recent general elections.
The observers have been holding meetings with party workers in their respective divisions to review the party's defeat and chalk out a strategy for the civic polls which are due later this year.
