"China and India, as emerging economies and large developing countries, have a natural partnership, and have explored a unique path of friendship and cooperation on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence," Wang told Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh when she called on him last night after the sixth India-China Strategic Dialogue here.
Wang noted that 2014 marks the 'Year of China-India Friendly Exchanges' as well as Indian general elections and stressed it is in line with the common interests of the two countries to maintain sound bilateral ties.
China, that initiated the silk road infrastructure projects connecting the country with India and other nations in the neighbourhood, also invited New Delhi to join its new initiative Maritime Silk Road to boost trade in Asia.
Singh said India attaches great importance to the bilateral partnership.
She stressed India is willing to work with China to promote high-level visits and cooperation in various fields.
The Sino-Indian ties are on "rising path" with the two countries emerging as "important and natural partners", Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told a media briefing here today, adding that the bilateral relations enjoyed sound development in recent years.
"China pays high attention to growing relations with India and we are willing to maintain this momentum of mutual interaction with high level visits," she said.
Asked whether yesterday's talks covered Afghanistan issue too in view of the withdrawal of US troops from there, Hua said there have been discussions on the issue.
The two countries held few round of talks on the matter.
"Afghanistan just held presidential elections. Hope this can be a new starting point for Afghanistan towards peace, unity and prosperity. We hope to work with relevant parties to continue support construction and unity in Afghanistan," she said.
