Secretary of Assam Ritendra Nath Sharma has died of a cardiac arrest.
He was 61.
Sharma, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer who had retired from his position less than a year ago, died in sleep at his residence here last night, family sources said today.
He was undergoing treatment for various ailments.
Sharma is survived by a son and daughter. His wife had predeceased him.
His last rites were performed at Nabagraha crematorium in the city today, the sources said.
