Vaishali, who was Lingayat's second wife, too was a constable with the GRP. She committed suicide at the GRP office at Thane railway station yesterday morning.
Inspector Bal Singh of Naupada police told PTI that Vaishali's father had filed a complaint accusing that Vijay used to beat her up, and harass her otherwise.
Lingayat, who was already married before he met Vaishali, has been booked for abetment of suicide and other relevant sections.
