Punjab Khadi and Gram Udyog Board has decided to provide easy loans worth Rs 140 crore to youth of the state to make them self-reliant under Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).
Under the scheme, the government will provide Rs 35.06 crore as subsidy to beneficiaries for setting up their own ventures, said Punjab Industries and Commerce Minister Madan Mohan Mittal today while presiding a high-level meeting of officers of Punjab Khadi and Gram Udyog Board here.
He said the government will set up a multi-purpose skill training centre at Mohali to equip the youth with the latest technology and knowledge of entrepreneurship. The state-of-the-art center would be established on a 14,500 square yard area in collaboration with Central Khadi and Gram Udyog Commission and Punjab Khadi and Gram Udyog Board.
The minister said the centre would give training to youth of northern states to start their own endeavours.
Mittal said Punjab government has decided to develop 25 villages under the Smart Khadi Village scheme in collaboration with Central Khadi and Gram Udyog Commission.
He said while in other states, only five villages are adopted under the scheme, Punjab is the only state where 25 villages are being developed under it.
