Sixteen kg of sea cucumber, an endangered species, was seized from six persons at coastal Sonithurai in the district while they were trying to smuggle it to Sri Lanka, officials said.
The seized sea cucumber was worth Rs three lakh.
They said the men were trying to smuggle the sea cucumber to the island nation from nearby Mandapam. However a forest official got wind of their plan and followed them. Seeing him, they tried to escape, but were nabbed.
