The incident came to light when the airport staff found a parcel left on the window sill of a toilet, police said.
Customs officials seized the gold and were investigating the identity of the person who abandoned the parcel.
There have been instances of smugglers abandoning gold they bring in from overseas in airports out of fear of detection by customs or to facilitate its transfer with the connivance of airport workers.
In May, customs officials had seized 7 kg gold, worth Rs 1.90 crore, found dumped in a dustbin near a boarding gate at the international terminal of Chennai airport.
