The government okayed the draft Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill, which proposes that NIA probe cases of human trafficking.
It also proposes a punishment of 10 years in jail to life term for trafficking human for the purpose of begging, marriage and injecting hormones for early sexual maturity, among other cases.
"I thank the government of India for their leadership. It is a victory of the 1.2 million people who participated in the 11,000 km-long 'Bharat Yatra' for this. This bill will help eradicate this modern day slavery," he was quoted as saying in a statement.
The Bill is expected to be tabled in Parliament in the second leg of the Budget session starting March 5.
