Following its win in the civic polls, the BJP's new team of councillors is dedicated to make Delhi the prime minister's "dream city", state unit chief Manoj Tiwari said today.
Flagging off a fleet of auto-tippers for garbage collection in South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), Tiwari said that the initiatives of the corporation were in tune with the party's manifesto for MCD polls that promised to provide best civic amenities to the people.
"In the coming days, the initiatives of SDMC will free south Delhi from garbage," he said.
Tiwari urged the residents of SDMC areas to cooperate with civic authorities to improve the rank of the city under Swachh Bharat Mission.
SDMC commissioner Punit Goyal said for the "first time" in the capital city, segregation of garbage at source as biodegradable, dry and hazardous waste will be done with an aim to provide a result-oriented transportation.
Besides garbage compacters, 148 auto-tippers, 28 three- wheelers and 56 rickshaws are going to be deployed for street-level collection.
Previously, only 80 auto-tippers were deployed for this purpose, he said.
The municipal corporation has decided to set up the second waste-to-energy plant soon, he said and added that formalities towards this end will be completed in the next two months.
