UP government today decided to accord security cover only to the public representatives and to those having court orders, a senior official said.
The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting convened by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and attended by Principal Secretary (Home) Deepak Sighal, DGP A L Banerjee, and Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan.
"Gunner facility will be given only to the public representatives, or those having court order or to whom District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police think have immediate threat perception. Facility to others, excluding these, stand withdrawn with immediate effect," Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan said.
Rajan said the CM also directed the senior officers to compulsorily brief the media about the situation after collecting detail from the crime scenes.
In cases of crime against women, it would be the responsibility of the district level officer to reach the spot immediately, lodge a case and take action, he said.
The chief secretary said a decision on police modernisation was also taken in the meeting for which Rs 100 crore would be approved in the first phase.
"While recruitment on the vacant posts of Sub-Inspectors will be done soon, the tradition of out of turn promotion has been abolished," he said.
The chief minister also ordered to launch a drive to remove encroachments coming up on the government land and a campaign would also be launched to check other crimes, like land mafias and sale of illicit liquor, he said.
