The 30-share barometer rose by 105.64 points, or 0.54 per cent, to 19,347.64.
Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved up by 24.20 points, or 0.41 per cent, to 5,871.90.
Brokers said fresh round of buying by major players driven by a firming trend on the other Asian bourses buoyed the trading sentiment here.
Besides, covering-up of short positions in view of approaching monthly expiry on Thursday also supported the upside, they said.
Meanwhile in Asia, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose 0.20 per cent and Shanghai was 0.43 per cent higher, while Japan's Tokyo Stock market remained closed today for a public holiday.
