'Sewage cleaners in Pb to be provided free insurance cover'

Workers engaged in de-silting and cleaning of sewer lines will be covered under Punjab government's free insurance scheme, state Chief Parliamentary Secretary (Local Bodies) Som Parkash Kainth said today.
Addressing a function here, Kainth said municipal corporations and committees will foot the bill of their insurance.
"In case of any casualty in accident, insurance cover of Rs five lakh will be provided under the scheme," he said.
He handed over letters of confirmation to thirty local sewage cleaners who had been working on contract basis for the last decade.
