An international horticulture and flora exhibition which begins here today with participation from 14 countries including China, Germany, Thailand and Israel among others is touted to be one of the largest exhibition on floriculture, nursery and greenhouse technology.

With India's flower consumption growing at a whopping 30 per cent per annum, numerous festivals and increasing modernisation, the country is poised to become a floral super power of the future, according to market reports.

"The 5th international Horti Expo along with 8th international Flora Expo would provide opportunity to farmers to exhibit their high-quality products. It would also provide platform to technocrats and companies to showcase latest agrochemical and irrigation techniques, agri-finance, processing and packaging techniques and medicinal value of herbal products", says S Jafar Naqvi, President, Indian Flowers and Ornamental Plants Welfare Association (iFlora).

The exhibition is set to go on till January 13.

"Due to rising income, aspirations of the new generation, globalisation and the internet, people in India are willing to spend lavishly on floral decoration. We aim to increase per capita flower consumption even further to give more impetus to floriculture industry", Naqvi told PTI.

"We have a unique culture of flower consumption in many forms like garlands, flower-carpets, floral rains and floral jewelry, to name a few. Flora Expo will bring not only conventional flower and gardening industry professionals but also mass buyers from new types of large industry retailers such as home centres, supermarkets, departmental stores and interior shops", he adds.
