Significant jump in HP residents' living conditions: Census

According to household data of census-2011 released here today, the state has highest 10.5 per cent households having six or more rooms, with Bilaspur, Solan and tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti having 19.6 per cent, 15.3 per cent and 14.9 per cent of such palatial houses.

87.2 per cent households own a house in the state while 72.4 per cent families are living in good quality houses and 69.1 per cent households now have toilet facility within the premises as against 33.4 in 2001.

The number of radios and transistors has gone down from 48 per cent in 2001 census to 25.7 per cent in 2011 while the number of TV households has increased from 53.3 per cent to 74.4 per cent, indicating that people are preferring TV to radio.

In rural areas, the number of telephones has increased from 13.9 per cent to 81 per cent while the number of TV households has increased from 50.4 to 73.2 per cent.

In urban areas, 92.5 per cent households out of total 1,66,043 households have a telephone compared to 36.4 per cent in 2001.

The number of TV households has also gone up from 76.1 per cent to 86.2 per cent in urban areas while the percentage radio/transistors household has dropped from 54.8 to 18.3 per cent. MORE
