Silver futures down 0.4% on lower global trend

Speculators partially trimmed positions, affecting prices

Tracking a weak global trend, silver prices moved down by 0.38% to Rs 43,682 per kg in futures trade today as speculators partially trimmed positions.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in September moved down by Rs 165, or 0.38%, to Rs 43,682 per kg in a business turnover of 434 lots.

Similarly, the white metal for delivery in far-month December declined by Rs 141, or 0.32%, to Rs 44,500 per kg in three lots.

Market analysts said speculators trimmed positions in tandem with a weak global trend as ebbing tensions in the Middle East and Ukraine boosted global equities, damping demand for the metal as an alternative investment, weighed on silver futures here.

Meanwhile, silver traded lower at $19.99 an ounce from yesterday's $20.01 in Singapore today.
