Atleast 13 people were reportedly missing since the riots

A Special Investigation Team has recorded statements of missing person's family members affected by communal clashes at Kandhla in Shamli district during Muzaffarnagar riots, police said today.

The Special Investigation Team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Jha reached the relief camp yesterday and recorded statements under 161 CrPc in connection with missing people of Lisadh village since the last month's riots, they said.

Atleast 13 people were reportedly missing since the riots. Later, bodies of two missing persons were recovered.

But 11 people are still missing and they are suspected to have been killed in riots at Lisadh village.

Meanwhile, some social activists belonging to different organisations have demanded that the people who are missing should be declared dead by the administration, following the pattern of Uttarakhand where a dead line was fixed to declare the missing as dead.

11 people including two girls had been missing since the riots took place in the village.

Activists Rehana Adib, Ramvir Sharma and Rehman Hamid had also put their demands before the National Human Rights Commission when the team visited here.

The team of NHRC led by Justice C Josef, DGP (Investigation) Kawal Dewal recently visited the riot-affected Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts.

Social activists said that it is necessary to provide relief to the victims' family members.

The last month's communal clashes in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas have claimed 62 lives and displaced over 40,000 people.
