Border Roads Organisation (BRO) will focus on construction of six strategically important road projects that will connect some of the remotest border towns near the Line of Control in Kashmir with the main Valley.
"We will focus on completing construction of six roads in the state which are strategically important during the current year (2016)," BRO Chief Engineer Brigadier A K Das told reporters here today.
The projects are Bandipora-Gurez road, Hajibal Z-Gali-Macchil road, Sumbal-Sonarwani road and Chowkibal-Tangdhar-Chamkot roads, Puldoda-Bhaderwah and Basohli-Bani-Bhaderwah roads, he said.
Also, five important bridges will be completed by the year end in Kashmir Valley, he said.
"Three bridges are being constructed on Chowkibal-Tanghdar Road, one on Srinagar-Sonamarg Bypass and one on Mohura-Bazz road in uri Sector.
"The four-laning of Shalteng-Narbal crossing stretch of Srinagar-Baramulla road will be completed by the end of May this year.
"The works have been going on at good pace and we have completed three major bridges which were delayed due to various reasons," Das said.
Among the three bridges was the Sopore Bridge, which took 23 years to complete, he added.
Das said due to the efforts of the BRO, the Srinagar-Leh road was kept open till December 20 last year while the Razdan Pass, connecting Gurez to Bandipora in Valley, was kept open till last week.
