Snow, rains in hilly areas; pleasant weather in plains

Hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand received a fresh bout of snowfall and rains today even as pleasant weather prevailed in plains where temperatures rose marginally.
Maximum rainfall was recorded in Manali (5cm) and Kalpa (4cm) in Himachal Pradesh; Bhaderwah and Pahalgam (4cm) each and Banihal, Quazigund and Konibal (3cm) each in Jammu and Kashmir; Mukteshwar (3cm) in Uttarakhand and Merrut (4cm) in West Uttar Pradesh.
Delhi had another pleasant day with the maximum and minimum in the city settling at 27.6 degrees Celsius and 14.5 degrees Celsius respectively, each registering a jump of 3 degrees.

The national capital also recorded traces of rainfall and the humidity here wavered between 24 per cent and 74 per cent.
Meanwhile, rain and thundershowers occurred at a few places in Punjab and Haryana though mercury there continued to hover above normal levels.
The day temperatures in the region ranged around 25 degrees Celsius with Gurgaon in Haryana registering highest maximum temperature of 26.8 degrees Celsius.

Above normal day temperatures were recorded at various places including Ambala, Chandigarh, Karnal, Narnaul, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala.
The minimum temperatures were above normal at many places. Narnaul in Haryana recorded a minimum temperature of 18.2 degrees Celsius which was eight notches above normal.

In Jammu and Kashmir, famous ski-resort of Gulmarg received fresh snowfall and was the coldest recorded place in the state even as minimum temperature fell at most places in the Valley.
State Weather Department has predicted decrease in precipitation from today onwards.
Gulmarg received 16.5 inches of fresh snow till 8:30 am. The minimum temperature in the resort settled at minus 8 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir, which serves as the base camp for the annual Amarnath yatra, recorded 8.5 cm of fresh snow, along with 37.4 mm of rainfall. Mercury there settled at a low of minus 0.4 degree Celsius.

Srinagar registered a low of 0.8 degree Celsius, compared to 0.4 degree Celsius the previous night. The city received 20.6 mm of rainfall during the night.
Leh, the frontier town in Ladakh region, recorded the minimum temperature of minus 1.7 degrees Celsius as against the previous night's 1.7 degrees Celsius.
The nearby Kargil town registered a low of minus 5 degrees Celsius, compared to the previous night's minus 3.9 degrees Celsius.
The MeT Department has warned of a fresh Western Disturbance that may affect the state on March 1.
