Sri Lankan held for spying for Pak remanded

A 28-year-old Sri Lankan national, who was arrested by National Investigation Agency on the charge of spying on behalf of Pakistan, was today remanded to judicial custody for 14 days by a designated NIA court here.
Arun Selvarajan, who was arrested here yesterday, has been charged under the Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act, read with relevant IPC sections.
"Also, he has been booked under the Official Secrets Act and NDPS Act for possession of ganja," Special Public Prosecutor for NIA Pillai told PTI.
He was produced before Sessions Judge, NIA court, M Moni in his chamber at 6.30 pm and was remanded to custody. He will be produced in the court again on September 25.
After the remand process was over, he was whisked away to the Puzhal central jail by NIA seluths in a car.
Arun was arrested for his alleged involvement in espionage activities.
He was found in possession of two passports- one Sri Lankan and Indian. He had allegedly gained access to certain vital installations under the guise of managing events.
An official in the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo was his alleged handler and he has criminal cases pending against him in Sri Lanka along with a lookout notice.
He was residing at Saligramam here at the time of his arrest.
