Stuck road projs to roll out after Gadkari-Parrikar meeting

A number of stuck highway and shipping projects are likely to roll out soon with Union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Manohar Parrikar today reviewing issues pertaining to transfer of defence land.
The projects discussed in a high-level meeting between Transport Minsiter Gadkari and Defence Minister Parrikar included widening of National Highways No. 8 at Dhaula Khuan for which defence land is required.
"Today's meeting was very positive. Cases like transfer of land on Gwalior-Shivpuri section of NH 3, Jodhpur-Barmer section of NH 112, Dagshi village on NH 22 and Tinsukia bypass have been resolved as a result of mutual consultations," sources in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said.

Pending cases like widening of NH 8 (Dhaula Kuan in Delhi and IFFCO chowk in Haryana), Chennai port to Maduravoyal and transfer of Defence land for Eastern waterfront project of Mumbai port were discussed in today's meeting, sources said.
Both parties have decided to extend full cooperation and resolve the pending issues in a time bound manner, sources added.
According to sources, NHAI has assured Defence Ministry of ensuring that passage to Army's R & R Hospital, Dhaulakuan in Delhi will not be blocked in case of expansion of NH 8 and access to hospital would be made.
Sources said Highways Ministry officials assured their Defence counterparts that proper consultations would be done with them before road expansion designs at Dhaulakuan and IFFCO Chowk.

Also, a request was made to the Defence Ministry to enhance powers of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) which has undertaken several projects in Jammu & Kashmir and Chardham. Also, BRO which falls under the Minsitry of Defence was asked to take projects on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode.
