The Goa NCP unit today said if the BJP-led government has proof of involvement of former Congress Chief Ministers in illegal mining in the state then action should be taken against them.
"Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had announced that he would put behind bars former Congress Chief Ministers who were allegedly involved in illegal mining," NCP's Goa unit chief spokesman Trojan D'Mello told reporters today.
"If he has proof, law should take its course and they should be arrested," D'Mello said.
After taking over charge of the state a year back, Manohar Parrikar had assured that politicians, including chief ministers, who were allegedly involved in shielding illegal mining would be punished.
The NCP leader today blamed Parrikar for the current limbo on the mining scenario.
The party which shared power with the Congress in the erstwhile government, however, refused to share the blame for the illegal ore extraction claiming that "there is no proof of illegal mining in the state."
D'Mello said that the Chief Minister had initially stopped all mining activity before Supreme Court did.
"Now he (chief minister) is blaming RTI activists for stoppage of mining activity," he alleged.
"The people (affected due to closure of mining activity) are targeting RTI activists because they are misguided," he said, referring to the recent mobbing of the RTI activists in Margao town.
