Tata Power Delhi controls Rs 1.12 crore theft using technology

Tata Power Delhi Distribution, the electricity supply arm of Tata Power, said it controlled power theft to the tune of Rs 1.12 crore in Delhi by using automated systems.
The company is using technology in its area of distribution in North and North-West Delhi, Tata Power Delhi Distribution said in a statement.
The company has installed AMR (Automated Meter Reading) based energy systems at Distribution Transformers (DT) level and carries energy audit of all DT on a regular basis, the statement said.
The company has installed automated meter reading based energy systems which helps in identification of areas in terms of power mismatch and hence provides actionable inputs for Enforcement Teams.
The technology intervention has helped the company to nab power thieves in areas like Sultanpuri, Civil Lines, Bawana, Alipur, Mangolpuri, Kanjhawala, Narela, Vijay Vihar, Adarsh Nargar, Jahangir Puri, and Samai Pur Badli, it said. So far, 108 FIR has been lodged in theft cases.
"A total of 439.9 kilowatt load was booked with billed amount of Rs 1.12 crore," the statement added.
"Power theft is like a disease which cripples the power sector and results in huge losses for all stakeholders particularly innocent customers who have to bear the burden of others wrongdoings," said a Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited spokesperson in the statement.
