Thakor protesters clash with police over constable suicide

Members of Thakor community today clashed with police during a bandh call given in the wake of alleged suicide by a head constable at Bhabhar town in Banaskantha district.
Hundreds of protesters came out on the road demanding arrest of eight persons named in the suicide note recovered from police constable Nagjibhai Thakor, and pelted the police with stones.
The police had to fire 15 teargas shells.
At least 10 people, including policemen, sustained minor injuries. The protesters were demanding arrest of the eight persons named in the note, and a CBI inquiry.
Tharad Deputy Superintendent of Police U R Patel said that police had filed a case against the eight persons named in the suicide note.
"Police are looking for them," Patel said, adding that the situation in the town was now under control and patrolling had been stepped up.
Head constable Thakor, who committed suicide yesterday by jumping in front of a train, alleged harassment by local politicians, bootleggers and a police sub-inspector.
Those named in his suicide note are president of Bhabhar municipality Baikunth Thakkar, vice president K V Rathod, former president Harilal Thakkar and five others.
Police have lodged a case under section 306 (abetting suicide) of the Indian Penal Code against them, but no arrest has been made yet.
