Tourism sector saw around 23 pc increase in FEEs in June compared to last yr: Govt

The tourism sector had witnessed an increase of around 23 per cent in foreign exchange earnings (FEEs) in June 2017 over June 2016, the government said today.
According to a statement from the tourism ministry, FEEs in June, 2017 amounted to Rs 13,088 crore as compared to Rs 10,677 crore in June, 2016 and Rs 9,564 crore in June, 2015.
The rate of increase in FEEs in June 2017 over June 2016 in terms of rupees was 22.6 per cent, compared to 11.6 per cent in June 2016 over June 2015, the statement added.
The FEEs during January-June, 2017 were Rs 87,096 crore with an increase of 19.7 per cent, as compared to Rs 72,749 crore with an increase of 13.6 per cent in January-June, 2016 over January-June, 2015, it said.
The foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) in the same period also witnessed an over-22 per cent increase compared to the corresponding period last year.
The number of FTAs in June, 2017 were 6.70 lakh as compared to 5.47 lakh in June, 2016 and 5.12 lakh in June, 2015, the statement added.
The rate of increase in FTAs in June, 2017 over June, 2016 was 22.5 per cent, compared to 6.8 per cent in June, 2016 over June, 2015.
