Expecting a modest growth in the two wheeler industry in 2014-15, automobile maker TVS Motor Company as part of strengthening its presence in motorcycle and scooter categories plans to introduce a slew of launches this fiscal besides foraying into new overseas markets.
"A slew of new launches of motorcycles and scooters in 2014-15 are expected to further strengthen the presence of the company in motorcycle category and consolidate position in scooter category," the company's annual report said.
According to the report, company sold 19.9 lakh two wheelers in line with last year (2012-13). Motorcycle sales increased by four per cent and scooters by six per cent. However, due to poor monsoon and decline of two wheeler sales in Tamil Nadu, moped sales marginally declined.
However, three wheeler sales of the company increased by 63 per cent in 2013-14.
Exports of two-wheeler increased by 14 per cent in 2013-14 due to demand expansion, better product mix and improvement in distribution network in major export markets.
"Even though Indian economy has been experiencing a slow growth phase, the long term prospects for two-wheeler industry continue to be attractive," it said.
On the sales of three-wheelers, the company said a diesel variant was tested during 2013-14 and was expected to be rolled out during the current financial year.
"Sales of three wheelers grew by 63 per cent. The company will consolidate the gains during 2014-15. Three wheeler diesel version was test marketed during 2013-14. The results are satisfactory and will be rolled out during 2014-15," it said.
