'UP govt has to bring out truth regarding Varun in hate case'

Congress today reminded ally Samajwadi Party of its "responsibility to bring out the truth" with regard to a media expose suggesting BJP MP Varun Gandhi was bailed out by the Uttar Pradesh government in a hate speech case.
"We have seen that expose. After the emergence of new things regarding it, it is now the responsibility of the state government to present the truth regarding it before the court. The court will take a decision," Congress spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed told reporters here.
On Tuesday, Union Minister Beni Prasad Verma, known for his antipathy to Mulayam Singh Yadav, had also alleged that Varun was cleared by a court in the hate speech case due to tacit understanding with the SP government in Uttar Pradesh.

Ahmed had yesterday distanced himself from Verma's remark.
A news channel has telecast a programme suggesting that the BJP MP was helped by the Uttar Pradesh administration in getting reprieve from the court in the case.
"After this new turn, the responsibility of the state government increases all the more to bring out the truth regarding it in public. It is the responsibility of the Samajwadi Party government to probe the truth deeply," the Congress spokesperson said.
Of late, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has been making statements in praise of BJP leader L K Advani and the NDA government, fuelling speculation of the growing proximity between the two parties.
