Three days after the Uttar Pradesh Combined Premedical Test (UPCPMT) was cancelled over suspected question paper leak, police today said the number of papers in the two boxes, which were allegedly tampered with, were found to be intact.
The Special Task Force and Ghaziabad district administration, which are probing into the suspected UPCPMT papers leak in Ghaziabad on June 22, examined the boxes kept in the strong rooms of Allahabad Bank and State Bank of India and prima facie found the number of papers were appropriate, IG (law and order) Amrendra Sengar told reporters here.
"When the papers were taken out from the boxes and counted, their number was found to be appropriate," Sengar said, adding, that the reports of paper leak were incorrect.
The UPCPMT was cancelled on June 22 over suspected question paper leak after the seals of two boxes containing them were found to have been tampered with, prompting the State Government to order a high-level probe.
More than a lakh students were to appear in the test for admission to various medical colleges in the state.
The examination was to be held across 213 centres in 15 cities of which 45 were in Lucknow.
"Papers of the test were sealed in 40 boxes which were kept in two banks in Ghaziabad. When officials went to these two bank branches, they found that the seals of two boxes had been tampered with. The exam was cancelled thereafter," Ghaziabad District Magistrate SVS Ranga Rao had said.
Directing that stern action be taken in the case, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had asked the Chief Secretary to constitute a high-level committee to probe the matter.
Later July 20 was announced as the fresh date for UPCPMT examination.
