Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today accused BJP of "dividing people on the basis of caste, region and on communal lines" ahead of the assembly polls next year and urged people to shun the party.

Speaking at the 15th Annual celebrations of an NGO, Sarvhit Kalyankari Sanstha here, he called upon Congress workers to unite for the welfare of the state and "ignore" those trying the create divisions in society.
On the opening of a medical college here, the Chief Minister said it should have been opened by now, but is delayed due to pending forest clearance for the land.

However, the medical college at Nahan is functional and the ESIC hospital will come up soon. Moreover, an AIIMS will be established at Bilaspur, Singh said.
At least 15,550 government schools and 116 degree colleges are functioning in the state and most of the higher centres of learning have been opened in remote areas, he said, adding an IIM is being established at Dhaulakuan in Sirmaur district.
On road infrastructure, he said the total length of roads in the state is 37,000 km.
