The city government is all set to make the stretch between Wazirabad and Noida signal-free by constructing a flyover at Majnu-ka-tilla crossing on Outer Ring Road in North Delhi.
According to PWD, it has received a nod from the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (planning and engineering) Centre to construct the flyover which will ensure signal-free movement for vehicles going towards Noida and vice-versa.
"Flyover will be built from Majnu-ka-tilla to Metcalfe House crossings on Outer Ring Road. Once the project is completed, the stretch from Wazirabad to Noida will be become signal-free which will reduce traffic jams," said a senior government official.
At present, there are often long traffic jams from Wazirabad to Metcalfe House during rush hours due to two traffic signals which slow down the movement of vehicles going towards ISBT, Noida, Geeta Colony.
"We will soon start work on constructing flyover which will also cut down travel time of vehicles coming from Uttam Nagar, Vikaspuri, Rohini, Burari and Haryana," the official also said.
On Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had thrown open to public the Vikaspuri-Wazirabad signal-free corridor, a project that was conceptualised by the Sheila Dikshit government, with the inauguration of a six-land flyover at Mukundpur Crossing on Outer Ring.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has also plans to construct a cycle track on a 9 km stretch in the corridor to promote cycling.
