The Swadeshi Jagran Manch today advocated for a vision of 'Made by India' saying that 'Make in India' is based on non-indigenous technology and foreign investment with "loads of rebates and relaxations"
Speaking at the 12th conference of the Manch which began here today, its National Coordinator, Arun Ojha said, "What we need is a vision of 'Made by India'."
"We have over Rs 9,000 billion in the bank accounts of our people and if only 10 per cent of this could be used to strengthen infrastructure and industries, we would not require any foreign investment," he said.
Former director of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Ravindra Kumar Tyagi, who was the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony, emphasised on the need of manufacturing in India.
The country has a large fleet of aeroplanes but not a single one is indigenously made, he said.
"This number would shoot up in coming years and we would also require 1,500 helicopters in next five years, but given our inability to manufacture them here, the foreign companies would make the best of it," Tyagi said.
At the climate change session of the three-day conference, members of the Manch would review the outcome of CoP-21 recently held in Paris and similar conference in Nairobi with respect to its impact on the country.
In light of the Global Warming and Climate Change posing an alarming challenge, the speakers denounced the "western" model of development and held it solely responsible for this threat while emphasised the Indian or "swadeshi" model for sustainable development.
