WEF screens Mandela biopic by Indian-origin producer

As the world's elite debate at the WEF Annual Meeting various issues affecting the mankind, they also watched here last night a biopic made by Indian-origin Anant Singh on the life of former South African President Nelson Mandela.
The movie 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom', features Idris Elba in the title role and Naomie Harris as his wife Winnie. A special screening was held here for World Economic Forum (WEF) delegates at the Arkaden cinema theatre.
The premiere of the movie was held in India earlier this week where superstar Amitabh Bachchan was also present.
Based on Mandela's autobiography, the more than two-hour-long movie chronicles his early life, coming of age, education and 27 years in prison before becoming President of South Africa.

WEF Founder and Executive Director Klaus Schwab said the screening of 'Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom' was part of an effort to "use the medium of motion picture to highlight topical global issues".
"The screening will also be a tribute to Nelson Mandela, who was a keen supporter of the Forum," he said.
Producer Anant Singh, who is an Indian-origin South African resident, said the Davos screening has a special significance since the Forum, "had recognised Madiba's leadership role shortly after his release from prison and invited him to address the Annual Meeting in 1991, three years before he became president of South Africa."

"I hope that the film will inspire the delegates as Madiba did in his first address at the Annual Meeting," he added.
