The highly decomposed body of Zulekha Begum (53), who was working at a government school, was found at her house in Venkateshwar Nagar of New Town in Mahabubnagar, they said.
"She was last seen at her house on Saturday. Whether she died of ill-health or any other reason and the exact cause behind the death were yet to be established. Only after an autopsy report further details can be known," a senior police official said.
The valuables at the house were also found intact and as foul smell emanated from the house, some locals alerted the police.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, police added.
