Siti Nor Intan Shafinaz Johari was sentenced after she pleaded guilty to the charge of having 139 terror-related images of dreaded Islamic State terror outfit in her handphone.
Judge Datuk Azman Abdullah of a Malaysian High Court while handing out the sentence said preventive action should be taken against those involved in such activities as it could cause instability in the country.
"We should address this problem as they are using religion to cover up their activities," he said.
"This subversive movement is something that has to be addressed as it uses religion as a facade. It is a threat that leads to violence and chaos, if not curbed," he was quoted as saying by the 'New Straits Times Online'.
The judge ordered Shafinaz to serve the jail sentence from the date of her arrest, which was last March 22.
The mother of an eight-year-old child was charged the Panel Code which provides an imprisonment for up to seven years, or fine, and liable to forfeiture of the items concerned, according to a media report.
