"We had bought rights of 'Battle for Bittora' two years back on my birthday. We are trying to make it. The team is working on screen-play," Sonam said during a panel discussion at the 18th edition of Jio MAMI film festival here.
"Battle for Bittora", a comedy, would be directed by Shashanka Ghosh.
The film was to reunite Sonam and the Pakistani actor Fawad Khan after their last outing "Khubsoorat". But apparently Fawad walked out of the film due to date issues.
Sonam will reportedly play an animation expert in the movie, who finds herself contesting elections in Bittora opposite an ex-royal. The film is being produced by Rhea Kapoor under the banner Anil Kapoor Films Company.
"Like mythological books are fantastic, they create great scope for film," she said.
"As actors we treat every film or every role with utmost sincerity and honesty, whether it's adapted from a book or not. Stories and roles are changing so it's challenging to do every character," she added.
According to the fashionista, it's the content that rules even today and grabs attention of people.
The 31-year-old actress said her interest in films grew due to books.
"I have grown up having over-imagination because of reading. I fell in love with cinema because of reading," she said.
"I have done three films where books have been the inspiration. Some of my favourite films have been based on books, like "Godfather", "Gone With The Wind"," she added.
