WR recovers Rs 12 cr as penalty for irregular travel in April

The Western Railway detected over 2.61 lakh cases of ticketless/irregular travel including unbooked luggage cases last month and recovered Rs 12.09 crore as penalty, a 5.89 per cent rise over April 2015.
Also, 299 cases of illegal transfer of reserved tickets were detected last month, 1219 beggars and unauthorised hawkers were apprehended, evicted, fined and 144 persons were sent to jail, said an officer from the Public Relation Department here.
"During this period, 190 checks were conducted against touts and other anti-social elements. 184 persons were apprehended and prosecuted and fined under various sections of Railways Act. 99 school children above 12 years of age were found travelling in ladies compartment of suburban trains and removed from these compartments," said the official.

The Western Railway is carrying out an intensive campaign against the ticketless travellers, he said.
"Senior officers are closely monitoring the revenue loss due to ticketless travel and such other irregularities," said the officer.
