The deceased, identified as a farmer Syed Ali, was hit by a speeding car last evening when he was riding a bicycle on Jansath-Morna road in Jatwarda village under Kakroli police station, they added.
After the accident, angry villagers managed to stop the vehicle and caught the occupants. They also allegedly set the car on fire and blocked the road.
They also allegedly manhandled the occupants, Pramod and Vinod Kumar, and held them captive till they were rescued by the police, they said, adding both of them were sent to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, additional police force has been deployed in the area and security has been tightened as a precautionary measure.
