B & C Mills' Workers Fear Closure Of Units

The hopes of about 4,500 employees at the troubled Buckingham and Carnatic Mills here may have been belied as the recently re-opened unit is rapidly moving towards stoppage of production for want of working capital and raw material.
The B & C Mills, with a history of closures for various reasons, would not be able to function for beyond a week as the unit's manager, Binny Ltd, had failed to arrange for short-term funds, N. Sriramulu, general secretary of the B &C Mills Staff Union, said.
Operations at the blowroom, carding and drawing divisions have already come to a halt, and work at preparatory, weaving and spinning sections were slipping towards stoppage,
