Goa Shipyard To Make Fast Attack Craft

Israel has also agreed to transfer the technology to India for building this ship. Israeli firm Ramta and the Goa Shipyard have signed a technology transfer agreement, the first such transfer from Israel for a full weapon combatant. Stating this in New Delhi yesterday, shipyard chairman & managing director Rear Admiral (retd) B R Menon told newspersons that this technology transfer will usher in a new era of warship-building in the shipyard.

These ships, which can travel at a speed of about 60 knots, will cost about Rs 30 crore each and the first is expected to be made in 12 months, he said.

Menon said that the Indian-built Israeli ship could eventually become an export item for the GSL as West Asian countries were eagerly looking forward to acquire this fast-attack craft. The shipyard has also entered into a pact with Portuguese firm Vianna Del Castella for construction of modular vessels, Menon said.
